As a local Broker, I don’t just live in Virginia, I work here, too. My real estate focus is on helping people understand a process that is often made all the more complicated by professionals who insist on a veil of secrecy rather than transparency. As a life-long learner, I pride myself in ever-expanding my knowledge base and passing it on.

Who I Help
I help sellers sell and buyers buy…that’s a bit unusual in real estate. Most agents list homes, and work with buyers as they come through their listings. I work with buyers completely aside from my listing business-I do not practice disclosed dual agency. Ever. Buyers haven’t traditionally been well-represented at the bargaining table, with many buyers going directly to the listing agent when they have interest in a house. Listing agents are contractually obligated to work FOR the seller, for the SELLER’S needs, not the buyers. I believe that being fluent in both the buyer and seller ‘language’ makes me a better agent.
Where I’m From
I am lucky enough to have lived all over the U.S. (upper Midwest, Northwest, Maine, Texas). I have a broad understanding of living and working in a lot of different places. I know what it means to relocate for employment and for family reasons; how hard it is to take kids out of school, to look for a new home in a town you’ve never been to, and sell a home with a lifetime of memories. I can help you with your next transition, because I’ve been there and know the challenges first-hand.

What I’ve Done
In addition to having lived or visited almost every state in the U.S., I have also traveled extensively outside the U.S., both for work and pleasure. I lived in Europe in the early ’90′s as an expatiate for a U.S.-based manufacturer, and traveled for many weeks at a time while visiting customers in over 30 countries throughout Asia, North America and Europe. For over 10 years, I specialized in negotiating contracts with international distributors, trained in-country sales staff on-site around the world, and help develop models for integration of distribution channels gained through acquisitions.

What I Like
I am a science geek at heart, and enjoy employing the latest and greatest when it comes to technology. For my customers, that means I keep up with the myriad of ways that people communicate and connect.
Living in Virginia means I am close to family…I live on 5+ acres in rural Albemarle County and my dogs really appreciate that. In my spare time, I enjoy traveling of all kinds whether across town or around the world, snorkeling, try to tie the perfect fly, standing in freezing rivers praying for fish and learning the difference between what I know and what I think I know. I have skydived (more than once…more than 5 times…), flown single-engine planes, hiked a volcano, spent a month camping in the west hitting every national park. Nothing is better than seeing, doing, showing, teaching and…repeat.

How I Contribute
I feel pretty fortunate to continue to be able to focus my personal interests into public service. I’ve sat on a Zoning Board of Appeals; I’ve volunteered as a crossing guard, taught a state-funded program helping potential first-time buyers make the leap into home ownership, campaigned for local politicians, canvassed for a variety of social issues and think that it’s a privilege to vote at every opportunity.
